This is a collection of highlights from my time working as a Graphic Designer at Village Print & Media from 2016-2017. My role on these projects varied as an illustrator, art director, photo retoucher, and/or designer.
I designed & letter-pressed a pocket-sized map of Brooklyn.
In 2014, intimate letters between Warren G. Harding and his mistress Carrie Fulton-Phillips were released to the public. I created a book that showcases the collection of these explicit and coded letters written from Warren to Carrie, as well as a timeline website of their relationship. Perhaps more interesting than their affair was their downfall: Carrie’s support of Germany during World War l. She blackmailed him by threatening to release the letters, and was paid off by the Republican National Committee for her silence. Book viewable here.
It’s all here. The Museum of Stolen Art brings together a unique collection of paintings and sculptures that were robbed from the public. This virtual museum can never replace the physicality of the lost works, and instead attempts to educate and bring awareness to art missing from museums around the world. The website was created for a tablet view. I also created a booklet of featured works to be easily distributed to the public.
I created this multi-pack of shoelaces by using the laces and shoe eyelets themselves in the design. Each pair of laces is packaged in a 2"x 2" reverse-tuck cube box, which all stack together to fit inside the larger one. Eight pairs of shoelaces for the avid skater, runner, or sneaker-wearer.

For one of my college projects, I branded Sealand, a micronation located off the coast of Britain. It has an amazing history and you can listen to this podcast or visit their new website to learn more. Although Sealand follows each of the rules for statehood (it has a territory, permanent population, government, and the capacity to enter into relations with the other states), it has been deemed a "micronation" because it is not formally recognized by any other countries. It was founded in 1967 on top of an abandoned fortress from World War ll by Roy Bates. E Mare Libertas (From the Sea, Freedom).
My grandfather, Thomas Hayes, grew up in Brooklyn on Ocean Avenue, across from his grandfather’s family-owned hotel and bar (running from 1890-1961). I went to the Brooklyn Municipal Archives recently to look at photos of both his home and the roadhouse, and also found a lot map of the area from the 1940s. I used letterpress to create the face of this clock; the textured background is the map of the neighborhood while the type and design were inspired by the huge original clock that used to occupy the bar.
The Getaway chocolate bar collection was inspired by songs from Coldplay, The Killers, and The Kooks. I designed the box and each bar, and made a logo for its parent company, 'Rock Candy.'
